Become a Behaviour Detective

Unravelling Your Child’s Actions with a Reactions Tracker

Alright, super parents, it’s time to put on our detective hats! We all know that raising a child with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) is a bit like being in a real-life game of Cluedo, but instead of solving a crime, we’re deciphering the mysteries of behaviour. So, let’s dive in.

The Mystery of Behaviour

Behaviours are a bit like riddles wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma, especially when it comes to our wonderful SEND kiddos. They’re trying to tell us something, but the message isn’t always clear. But fear not my fellow parent sleuths! We’ve got a secret weapon in our detective toolkit.

Meet Your New Sidekick: The Reactions Tracker

Enter the Reactions Tracker, your Watson in the journey of understanding your little Sherlock’s behaviours. This handy tool helps you jot down what’s going on, when it’s happening, and your response to it all. It’s elementary, my dear parents!

And remember, our tracker isn’t just for those “oh dear” moments. It’s also for celebrating the “heck yeah!” ones. After all, what’s a detective story without some good news?

Haven’t got one of our trackers?

That’s ok, you can track in any notebook or app, our Reactions tracker just has it all ready to go.

How to Crack the Code

  1. Log the Behaviour: Just like a detective jotting down clues, note the behaviour. Try to be as specific as Dr. Watson with his meticulous case notes. Swap “meltdown” with “staged a rebellion when asked to join us at the table.”
  2. Note the Scene: What was going down when the behaviour occurred? Was there a crowd? Was it quiet or noisy? These details can be the key to unlocking the why behind the behaviour.
  3. Record Your Response: Log your own action and reaction. It’s all about trial and error, discovering what works.
  4. Spot the Patterns: After playing detective for a while, take a step back and look for patterns. Are they happening at certain times of the day? Does a particular place or person always cause unease?

Let’s Get Interactive!

This isn’t a monologue, it’s a dialogue. Share your detective findings on Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #SENDParentDetectives. Or, post a story about a recent breakthrough moment you had using the tracker or any of our other planners or tools, and don’t forget to tag me, I’d love to see it!

Conclusion

As detectives on the beat of SEND parenting, we know every day presents a new case. But with our trusty Reactions Tracker by our side, we’ll become experts at cracking the behaviour code.

Remember, we’re striving for a world where our children feel understood and we, as parents, feel empowered. And remember, every good detective takes time off for tea (or maybe that’s just Sherlock Holmes), so take care of yourself too. Happy sleuthing, my fabulous detectives!
